Introduction
There she was, lying on the ground, just outside the front door of my school. Her bright red body contrasting with the grey pavement, her colour so intense she almost seemed to vibrate. I moved in to pick her up from the warm tiles, the sun reflected off her subtle, softly rounded facets. I pick up the bright red bead. As I held her in my hand I felt sorry for her, she was lost and alone, separated from her previous life. The hole that runs through her body is vacant, no string to tie her to anything anymore. She awaits a new story, a new family.
That is the day that I truly started collecting. This was the first time I was conscious of resonating with an object, having such a strong reaction that it changed the way I saw myself and the way I interact with my surroundings. Each object carries its own story, an echo of the past, and a promise for the future.
"The simplicity of a bead is what made me examine the complexity of the objects around us."
My collection began with the bead—a seemingly simple object that has served as currency, a status symbol, and an emblem of craft and luxury. Through careful curation, these artifacts bridge past and present.
