Introduction

There she was, lying on the ground, just outside the front door of my school. Her bright red body contrasting with the grey pavement, her colour so intense she almost seemed to vibrate. I moved in to pick her up from the warm tiles, the sun reflected off her subtle, softly rounded facets. I pick up the bright red bead. As I held her in my hand I felt sorry for her, she was lost and alone, separated from her previous life. The hole that runs through her body is vacant, no string to tie her to anything anymore. She awaits a new story, a new family.

That is the day that I truly started collecting. This was the first time I was conscious of resonating with an object, having such a strong reaction that it changed the way I saw myself and the way I interact with my surroundings. Each object carries its own story, an echo of the past, and a promise for the future.

"The simplicity of a bead is what made me examine the complexity of the objects around us."

My collection began with the bead—a seemingly simple object that has served as currency, a status symbol, and an emblem of craft and luxury. Through careful curation, these artifacts bridge past and present.

The Red Bead

The Collective

An ongoing research into the objects that are present in our surroundings. By studying and replicating found objects I get to see into their world of practical aesthetics, learning about their design, production techniques and even their previous owner. By showing the beauty present in these objects I am emphasizing the effort it took for them to come into this world, never mind the coincidence of them ending up in my hands.

Lost & Found

A growing series of wearable collages, crafted out of carefully selected pieces from my found object archive. When left on their own, slowly the objects find their own way towards each other. An new constellation and a new life for these lost and discarded objects.

Decorative Purpose

The title for this collection was given to me by a picture frame I found in a thrift shop. It has a sticker on its back saying; "this object is intended for decorative purposes". This banal statement became a mantra I applied to these works. Outdated furniture, vintage objects, kitsch aesthetics transformed into wearable necklaces. Objects still refer to their past, but now in an entirely new context.

Object Portraits

A series of photographs that emerged during my obsessive collecting of necklaces and beads. Seeing such beauty and preciousness in these jewellery pieces I started curating and organising my found objects into the shape of a necklace. Have I been finding jewels all along?

Various Works

A variety of works, separate projects, open calls, contests. All sprouting from the same care for material, craft and attention.
